tabls is a desktop app for Windows. Point it at a folder on your computer and that folder becomes a place to organise your work. Everything you enter is saved straight back into it as an ordinary file, so your work is never locked inside an app or sitting on somebody else's server.

There is no tabls server, so a workspace is shared the same way you already share a folder. Your colleagues see your work; nobody else does.

Everything you type is saved as an ordinary file.

Sharing is just sharing a folder
Put the folder in OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive or on the office drive, and everyone who can see that folder can open the workspace. There is no seat to buy and no server to trust.
Nothing to be locked into
No account to create, no export to request. If you ever stop using tabls, your work is still sitting there in the same folder, in files that Notepad and any other text editor can already open.
Nine views
The same work, nine ways to look at it.
You are not stuck with one layout. Set up a table to work in, a board to plan on and a page to hand to a client, all over the same entries. Change one and the others follow, because there is only ever one copy of anything.
Table
The familiar one. Sort it, filter it, group it, total a column, type straight into a cell.
Board
Cards in columns, like sticky notes on a wall. Drag one across and it is saved.

Anything with a date on it, laid out on a month.
Timeline
Things with a start and an end, as bars across the weeks. Useful for plans.

Not "works offline for a while, then needs to sync". There is nothing to sync to. Open it on a plane, on a building site, on a laptop that has never been on your network, and it behaves exactly the same as it does at your desk.
It reaches exactly two places, and neither of them ever sees a document: the releases page, to check whether a newer version exists, which you can turn off; and the shop, to check your licence key, and only if you have bought one. A licensed copy then runs for 30 days without asking again.

Features

Keeping your work in plain files is the point, but it is not the whole product. This is the rest of it, and none of it asks you to be online.
You decide what to record
A client has a phone number and an address. A job has a price and a due date. You set up the boxes once, and every new entry gets them.
Things can point at each other
Attach a job to a client and you can look at it from either end: everything for this client, or who this job is for. You never type the same name twice.
Your documents live there too
Contracts, photos, scans and notes sit in the same folder and open in the same window. Photos even bring their own details with them, like when and where they were taken.
Made to be printed
Build a page, choose A4, Letter, Legal or A5, set the margins, put your own heading and page numbers on every sheet, then print it or save it as a PDF.
Fits what you already use

What the 500 counts
Entries and documents: your tasks, your clients, your notes, your PDFs and photos. The small files that describe how a workspace is set up do not count, so a big folder never loses track of what its entries are.
What happens over the limit
Nothing on your disk is touched. Files above the line are just not in the app's lookup yet, so they do not show up in views and searches. Every one of them still opens in Explorer, in Notepad, in anything else, exactly as it did before.
The licence is a key
You get a key by email, paste it into the app once, and that is the last thing you have to think about. It works offline, and you can move it to another computer later.

What is tabls, in one paragraph?
A desktop app that turns a folder on your computer into a place to organise your work. You choose what you want to keep track of, whether that is clients, jobs, invoices, equipment or recipes, and what you want to record about each one. Then you look at it as a table, a board, a calendar, a timeline or a page ready to print. Everything you enter is saved into that folder as an ordinary file.
Do I need to be technical to use it?
No. If you have ever built a spreadsheet, you already know how this works. The difference is that the columns are proper boxes, so a date behaves like a date and a phone number behaves like a phone number, and you get boards and calendars and printable pages over the same information without setting anything up twice.
Where exactly does my data live?
In the folder you picked, in files you can open with anything. The app keeps a quick lookup of what is in there so searching stays fast, but that is only a shortcut it can rebuild at any time. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, and there is no hidden database that only tabls can read.
How is it different from a spreadsheet?
A spreadsheet is one big sheet of cells. Here every entry is its own thing with its own boxes, and entries can point at each other, so a job knows which client it belongs to and a client can show you all of their jobs. You also get more than one way to look at the same information, and because every entry is its own file, your backups and your version history are the ones you already have.
Can my colleagues work in the same workspace?
Yes. Put the folder somewhere you already share, such as OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive or the office network drive, and everyone who can open that folder can open the workspace. What it does not do is live co-editing: there are no cursors moving around the screen. Different entries never clash, because they are different files, but if two people change the same entry at the same moment, that is settled by whatever is syncing the folder, and the app shows you which files were affected.
